Shovelling with the dogs

Yesterday’s blizzard in Massachusetts kept me busy snow shoveling for a good number of hours; a path to the hen house, driveway clearing, dog accessible romp ground, etc.  At the end of the day I sat down in my home office therapy room to tune my beloved sound healing instrument, the monochord sound table. It has 55 strings which, for optimal regenerative and healing effect, is meant to be tuned to C#.

Periodically I sit myself down to this task, but within the first few moments I remember how this ‘task’ is truly a joy, a renewed lesson in the power of ‘one’. C# is the universal note of oneness; the sacred syllable “om”. When the strings play in accord with each other in this frequency you literally feel the magic.

After tuning several individual strings, I strum the tuned keys together to test the overall tone. Multiple overtones effortlessly emerge, merging one action  into a multi-layered symphony of sound.

It never ceases to amaze me how playing one note can transport you to a state of balance and joy. I am once again reminded of the power of unified effort of harmonious action to make the body, mind and spirit soar.
