Taxes and…Change

Taxes and…Change

The month of April has arrived, the month when most of us file our tax returns. Perhaps you are familiar with the expression, “there is nothing certain in life but death and taxes” (Benjamin Franklin – 1789). However, I would like to add one more certainty, CHANGE… change as it applies to one of my favorite subjects, the human body. Your body is always changing. Your cells are always in transition: dying, shedding, regenerating, repairing, replicating or replacing themselves. For example: every twenty-four hours nearly a million skin cells are shed, in a few days the lining of your stomach and intestines are replaced, every four months you generate a fresh army of red blood cells, every ten years your skeleton is renewed and every fifteen years your muscle cells completely refresh themselves.

I believe it is of utmost importance for you to learn and be discerning when it has to do with the variances of your body. Every day happenstances influence and change you. Whether it is a few hours of snow-shoveling that gets your shoulder out of whack, an afternoon spent on your knees gardening that causes your back to ache, an emotionally stressful encounter that gives you a headache, lugging around luggage on your vacation which spasms your ribs, or sleeping on an old mattress that makes your neck stiff… you are best served by giving those areas supportive and restorative attention, sooner rather than later.

I believe the healthiest way to deal with everyday change is to tune into yourself on a regular basis to receive your body’s messages and seek healing guidance and support as a practice. As a healing bodywork therapist, I help you do just that: listen to your body’s calls for attention and address your body’s challenges, firsthand. My goal is to help you navigate, to reset and realign with every twist and turn of life so that the inevitable changes of life do not get the better of you.
